CE: City of Blinding Lights

Contest entry for

One thing I love about drawing Cy'ra, besides her color, is the excuse to draw fabulous snowy backgrounds. Here we find Cy'ra and The Wanderer romping through the Alaskan wilderness beneath a show of the Northern Lights as the colors dance like a prism on the surface of the snow.

This was totally new for me, but I really enjoyed the challenge. This is one of my favorites at the moment, partially because of the sky and partially because I really like how these two look together.

The title is taken from U2's song "City of Blinding Lights." I was first introduced to that song while I was reading The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, and I always thought of the Northern Lights and the snows of the north during Lyra's journey. So, that song was some of the inspiration behind the picture.

About the scan: it caught most of the color, but for some reason cut off the bottom of the image, so you can’t see the neat shadow of their legs. It's really a shame because it totally rocked
