Right Brain Suppression by SilverFlameWanderer Right Brain Suppression by SilverFlameWanderer
This past semester, I was in Chemistry 102, Calculus I, and Introduction to Economics. The only non-math/science class I had was called The Challenge of Modernity, which I absolutely loved. However, throughout the whole semester, my mind felt incredibly trapped as the left half of my brain was constantly being worked and overruling the right half of my brain (that would probably describe the mass uploads back in April). Sometimes I feel as though the education system suppresses the right brain a little too much and the hemispheres become unbalanced. As a result of this, I grew increasingly frustrated with my classes, yearning for an artistic outlet. This painting came to me in the middle of some deep breathing exercises last week. Creativity of the right brain suddenly explodes in inspiration and color and imagination, overwhelming the pressure of the left brain to remain logical, scientific, analytical, and conformed.

Think for yourself.
Question authority.

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.

Think for yourself.
Question authority.

Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

In... Out... In... Out... In... Out...

A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.

"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running?"

Shroud-ing all the ground around me
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
And blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song...

"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much.
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?"

Prying open my third eye.
So good to see you once again.
I thought that you were hiding.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing the tail of dogma.
I opened my eye and there we were.

So good to see you once again
I thought that you were hiding from me.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing a trail of smoke and reason.

Prying open my third eye.

Ohhhhhhh! This is WOW!! excellent! and yes the education system pretty much sucks...! it is often leaps of creativity and imagination that gives rise to the deep breakthroughs within science and math! Often a true artist is unfortunate enough to have their abilities suppressed so much so they are unaware of it! :( But I love this piece!
I do think there is much by way of artistic dabbling one can do and create within the realm of science! Its a shame i can't draw...but have lots of ideas! :(

Thank you for your comment! I just feel that so many people are restricted within various academic fields. Even when students are told to be creative, that often means within the confines of what we know and what can be done.

I hope you find a way to get those ideas out someday! :) Even if it's not through drawing, maybe you'll find another way.

Yep...i've taken to a few outlets!!
Guess I can get my creative hat on proper after
getting through all my exams! (Which too are very
much within the system!) Ahh well guess sometimes
we just have to work with the system, understand it
in order to then positively influence it or hmmm
overthrow it!! :)

Haha, so true. Though, that can be frustrating if you constantly feel confined. But, the best way to create change is to create it from within and create it from an understanding of how the system does or does not work in order to make the changes (or overthrow) as fluid as possible.

I hate having my right brain suppressed.
Though I'm sure if it is my right brain-I heard this weird thing about left-handers occassionally having the sides of their brain mixed up-this could be total rubbish, though

That's really interesting because the left brain controls the right side of the body and the right brain controls the left side of the body. Hmm...I'll have to do some research on that.
